INDIANA ATTORNEY GENERAL CANDIDATE DESTINY WELLS CALLS ON LEGISLATURE TO ADDRESS LANDLORD-TENANT CRISIS

INDIANAPOLIS—Today Indiana Attorney General Candidate Destiny Wells made the following statement on the overwhelming lack of regulation protecting Indiana tenants.

"Indiana renters are disproportionately impacted by some of the nation’s most burdensome landlord-tenant laws,” stated Destiny Wells. “As it stands currently, Hoosier renters are at the mercy of their landlord without the protection of rent escrow laws that exist in 45 other states.”

While Hoosiers continue to experience housing shortages, eccentric mortgage markets, and absent landlords, Attorney General Todd Rokita has done nothing to advocate for meaningful landlord-tenant reforms, instead relying on special interests to quash legislation that would bring balance to the landlord-tenant relationship.

“Is Todd Rokita going to continue lobbying for special interests or Hoosiers?” concluded Destiny Wells. “As an attorney in private practice, I took on predatory landlords and as Attorney General, I will continue that fight to give Hoosiers accountability.”
